I agree that these are great portable scanners. My one caveat is that
you should keep a very close eye on the quality of your results. I
have had two scanners of this general make, and both eventually
developed a mysterious white line that gets more noticeable over
time. If you are scanning small items, you can avoid the area that
produces the line (I believe it was on the left side of the scanner),
and get good use long after this defect begins to appear, but
obviously that's not possible if you want to scan something big.

I encountered this problem with my first scanner midway through
scanning a couple thousand family photos, and didn't notice it until
quite a few scans later (as it starts out faint and gets worse over
time). My current scanner has begun to have the same problem.

Apart from that, which is a serious flaw, I find these scanners quite
wonderful. I guess the best thing to do is have a non-portable
scanner for home use and use one of these solely for travel. I've
used mine at one reunion and quite a few libraries and relatives' homes.
