I do much as Karen has described here. I also treat orphanages and rooming
houses the same.
I keep the person of interest in the Principal role. In the memo I always
have a brief notation of the content (others, as you know place this in the
source). I have placed a || where the split occurs between the tag sentence
and the memo field content.
Ida DYRLAND (695) appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of United Lutheran
Church Orphan's Home, Lyon Township, Lyon County, Iowa, enumerated 3 May
1910. ||There are approximately 150 "inmates" listed as residents of the
Home with 18 adults, comprised of the head and his wife (Thore and Bertha
Sanderson), 1 matron, 4 teachers, 2 Cask (?), 6 nurses, and 3 laborers. The
enumeration for the Dyrland children is as follows:
Dryland, Bell, inmate, age 11
--, Ida W., inmate, age 8
--, Lester A., inmate, age 6
No other information is given about them.
I take the opportunity to include other information such as the count of the
support staff etc.....the source then lists the Sanderson's as heads of
household. (I now am a lumper of census)
Just how I do it.
Jill

For individuals in an institution or hotel/large boarding house, I use the
role Principal. I use the individual rather than the "household" in the
source. It is not necessary to name the head of household in the citation.
If you have Mills' QuickSheet, look at her image example for Wong. I just
looked at the image on Ancestry and Wong was a boarder.
