I've followed a 'system' I've done for all scans. Since I automatically do
this with ALL photo scans, I'm always ready for TMG or emailing something to
a family member. I scan the photo and allow extra space at the edges,
especially at the bottom which allows me to add words. I do this so that
any separate notes in any program or note file can't get lost. In the added
lower space I add any information I want kept with the photo. I adjust the
space for the space I think I'll need, crop out excess space when I'm done
and then save it. I use an older version of the program Adobe Photoshop
Elements which lets me size, color, place and center my words. If the
person who gets a copy doesn't want the words, they can crop them out for
their printing and the photo is still the same as the original.
My source is usually within those words. I list who supplied the photo, who
it was sent to and the date along with who the subject/s are and any known
details. I've never tried to go any other way with the TMG program as this
is so easy and safe for future lookers (future reference), especially if the
words are kept with any printout done by someone else. I guess you could
say it's my way of doing things unlike a regular photo album which usually
shows photos only.
I can't say my way is right, but it sure works for me. I like it also for
the reason that the information automatically prints in any printout as it's
part of the JPEG or other format I saved it in. A few years back I got
tired of retyping info for various family photos at different time periods
per requests and also searching for various information concerning 'that' or
'those' photo/s and that's how I solved the problem/s.

Subject: [TMG] How do I assign a source to an exhibit?
Greetings TMGers,
I would like to have a source assigned to a photo. Say I have a photo of
Uncle George, and I borrowed it from Aunt Martha to scan it into my
computer. I'd like to give her credit for giving me the photo.
I assign the photo of Uncle George to his individual record (I don't
assign it to an event or tag). I don't see any way to assign a source to an
exhibit, short of having to make a special "photo" tag for it, which I don't
want to do, because I don't want it showing up within the text of the
individual's details. I just want a source attached to the exhibit so that a
footnote reference appears on the photo's title or description. Then, in the
footnote, I want to say something like "Photo is donated by Aunt Martha" or
"From the Photo Library of Aunt Martha". Or something to that nature.
Is this possible in TMG?
Any help you can provide is most appreciated!
