This applies to any kind of transfer (including from another user's
TMG project):
-- Clean up all Master lists and you mentioned;
-- Places
-- Repositories
-- Sources
-- duplicates of any of the above or persons.

When merging anything, be aware that you can lose data in a merge
when one record with slightly different data is merged with an
apparently duplicate record and the first record is then deleted. In
cases where persons are merged, this is not as much a problem as it
is with Sources. One Source can have more data in the Source than
the other Source has and when the merge occurs, if the "more" Source
is merged into the "less" Source, you will lose data. The idea is to
review both before merging and make sure that both records have the
same data before merging or deleting the extra record. Often for
Sources, this will mean that you also want to make changes to the
Source Citations (use the List of Citations report for help in this area).

After you have clean up the Master list, create a Custom "Cleaned"
(or whatever) Flag (default is N). Then after each person is
reviewed and cleaned up, set the Flag to Y. This helps you keep
track of who has been cleaned up.

Keep a good backup of each session (going back two or three sessions)
in case you find that you goofed somewhere and deleted too much.

For each person, as has been noted, look at the data for each
Tag. While you also want to make sure the data is correct and in the
right fields (as well as persons), you also want to see that the
recorded data works with the Tag Sentence(s) if you plan on using
narrative reports.

A lot of this can be done in stages. Master lists first, clean up of
persons in two or three of more stages, duplicate person merging in
another stage, etc. There is not a specific order to any of this
although I would suggest cleaning up the Master lists first. I'd say
more or less in this order -- Places, Repositories, and Sources.

Hope this helps -
