I'll bite on this one - not that I think "my way" is the best way, more that
I'd love some critique and discussion! I'm a splumper - sometimes splitter,
sometimes lumper - and always looking for a better way, but here's what I'm
doing now.
Source Type: .Compiled Database (Ancestry)
I put a "." before the name of the source types I've scrubbed and
actually use, so they sort to the top
FF:<"[CD1]", [RECORD TYPE], >[REPOSITORY], [ITAL:][DATABASE TITLE][:ITAL]<,
transcribed by [TRANSLATOR]>, (<[RM1]: ><[RM2], [RM3]:
>[WEB:][RM4][HID:][SS:];Online[:SS][:HID][:WEB]< : accessed [ACCESS DATE]>);
from [ITAL:][ORIGINAL BOOK TITLE][:ITAL] of the [ORIGINAL PUBLISHER]<.
[CD2]>.
SF:<"[CD1]", >[ITAL:][DATABASE TITLE][:ITAL]<. [CD2]>.
BIB: <[STATE]. ><[COUNTY]. >[REPOSITORY]. [ITAL:][DATABASE TITLE][:ITAL].
<[RM1]: ><[RM2], [RM3]: >[WEB:][RM4][HID:][SS:];Online[:SS][:HID][:WEB]<.
[M]>.
The idea is that I can use this source type for pretty much all of the
databases on Ancestry, with minimal stuff to remember to put in the CD
(usually just the person's name), and as consolidated a bibliography as
possible. For a bibliography I'm pretty much just looking to have a list of
the databases I looked at, with the option to break it down by State and
County if I want to.
I use Second Site for web output, with "Full then Short" for person page
footnote output, and Bibliography for the Source pages. I've also added a
fair number of custom source elements and use the Repository memo for my
Ancestry.com repository to construct the publisher information
appropriately. I have different source entries for the images (one for each
state and county) and the database (just a single source). So, here's the
way the sources look:
For the scanned images ---
Abbrev: Mil_TX_Lipscomb Co_WWI Civilian Draft Reg Images
FF: "Homer Price," document image, Ancestry.com, [ITAL:]World War I Draft
Registration Cards, 1917-1918[:ITAL], (Provo, UT: MyFamily.com, Inc., 2005:
[WEB:]www.ancestry.com[HID:][SS:];Online[:SS][:HID][:WEB] : accessed 21 Jun
2006); from [ITAL:]World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918[:ITAL] of
the United States Selective Service System<. [CD2]>.
SF:"Homer Price," [ITAL:]World War I Draft Registration Cards,
1917-1918[:ITAL]<. [CD2]>.
Bib: Texas. Lipscomb County. Ancestry.com. [ITAL:]World War I Draft
Registration Cards, 1917-1918[:ITAL]. Provo, UT: MyFamily.com, Inc., 2005:
[WEB:]www.ancestry.com[HID:][SS:];Online[:SS][:HID][:WEB].
For the lookup into the database ---
Abbrev: Mil_WWI Civilian Draft Reg Dbase
FF: "Homer Price," database, Ancestry.com, [ITAL:]World War I Civilian Draft
Registrations[:ITAL], transcribed by Ray Banks, (Provo, UT: MyFamily.com,
Inc., 2005: [WEB:]www.ancestry.com[HID:][SS:];Online[:SS][:HID][:WEB] :
accessed 21 Jun 2006); from [ITAL:]World War I Draft Registration Cards,
1917-1918[:ITAL] of the United States Selective Service System<. [CD2]>.
SF: "Homer Price," >[ITAL:]World War I Civilian Draft Registrations[:ITAL]<.
[CD2]>.
Bib: Ancestry.com. [ITAL:]World War I Civilian Draft Registrations[:ITAL].
Provo, UT: MyFamily.com, Inc., 2005:
[WEB:]www.ancestry.com[HID:][SS:];Online[:SS][:HID][:WEB].
Note that the construct
[WEB:]www.ancestry.com[HID:][SS:];Online[:SS][:HID][:WEB] will, on paper
reports, show "www.ancestry.com" so the reader sees the actual web address,
and on SS it will be a clickable link to that website with the link text
just being "Online".
Long response! Sorry for that, but I'd love to see what other folks are
doing, always looking to improve stuff!

Subject: [TMG] Source template for W. W. ! Draft cards
Has anyone constructed a source template for the W. W. I Draft Cards now
online at Ancestry?
If this question has come up before please accept my apologies. I just
recently rejoined the list after a long hiatus.
I have just received Quick Sheet and am a little disappointed.. Over
the years I have written my own templates based on what I thought was
Mills format. I am a SERIOUS fan of Ms. Mills work but...
My census cites are pretty close to Mills EXCEPT although I always PRINT
everything out and include "printout" dates I really don't record the
date I printed out a census image. When I transcribed census films I
didn't include the date I wrote down this information did I? Evidence
didn't suggest including this information either!
When I printed out information from my CDs I didn't include exact time I
printed them did I?? Although I guess I could have..I have been gong
through some old files and I noticed th huge boldfaced print including
the exact DATE and TIME that I printed out the images. Previously
printouts from Heritage Quest CDs had included information useful in
constructing a citation page numbers, film series and roll number,
etc.... My DH had installed my latest CD and I looked at him and
Hissed, "What is this date time rubbish???" and he informed me that my
new CD had required a new reader and that furthemore my other census CDs
would probably now work the same way. <snarl>!!!!
<grin> Please excuse this diatribe. I think I will keep my online census
citations the way they are..
Back to my original question. <smile> How is everyone citing the draft
cars? I am planning to use printout dates for these and I do think I
would like to use individual citations for these cards.
Ancestry of course does include a citation format, but I was thinking
that according to Mills the citation should be something like.
National Archives and Records Administration, "World War I Selective
Service and Draft Registration Cards 1917-1918", subscription database
and digital images, Ancestry.com <http://ancestry.com>, entry for John
Smith: printout dated 05 August 2006.
"World War I Selective Service and Draft Registration Cards 1917-1918"
for Jon Smith.
Washington D. C. National Archives and Records Administration "World
War I Selective Service and Draft Registration Cards 1917-1918"
Subscription database and and digital Images. Ancestry.com.
http://ancestry.com: 2005.
