I am certainly not expert here <G>, but having done two restores in the past
month, one over an existing (older) version of a project, I can tell you
that the first time I opened the restored project, it automatically created
the index files.

Thanks for this discussion on backup.
I generally find that Backups are easy, it's the restore that usually causes
the headaches.

So, using only TMG's built-in backup/restore system- It sounds like one can
use a tiered backup strategy:

Say, once a week, do a full backup- project, external exhibits,
customizations; all the checkboxes selected.
And say, after every hour of hard entry/editing work not involving exhibits,
one could do a project file-only backup. (not including external exhibitss).

Now for the restore part,
Given a blank destination disk, first restore the full backup and then
restore the latest "project only" backup.

New Question
My understanding of why the project file only backup is so effective is that
it only backs up the data tables and not the index files.
When restoring a project only BU into a folder that has an older version of
the same project with their associated index files, will the existing index
files be automatically be marked for re-creation after the table files are
changed by the restore?
