Subject: Duplicate Tag Type in Merged Dataset
Date: Sat, 2 Sep 2006 08:48:04 -0700
At the beginning of this year, I created a new TMG file and have been
importing my surnames, one at a time, from a single TMG file (the "Original
TMG") into the new file ("New TMG"). The process has gone smoothly with one
exception:
In the Original TMG file, I had created custom tags GAR-Beg and GAR-End. I
am not sure what I did wrong, but after importing the first 10 surnames, I
now have 10 GAR-Beg and 10 GAR-End tags in the New TMG file. I have other
custom tags, none of which seem to have propagated themselves in the import
process. Nonetheless, I need to eliminate the duplicates.
I recall there was an earlier discussion about this issue. Also, as I
recall, there is not a way to "merge duplicate tag types," but there was a
process one could go through to eliminate the duplicates. Hoping someone can
point me to the earlier thread about this issue. I did not find the thread
searching "Duplicate Tag Types" in message body (TMG; 2006).
Separately, I have 40 more surnames to import. Is there a process I should
use in future imports, or some change that I should make to the custom tags
in the Original TMG file that would prevent the creation of these duplicate
tag types during the importing into my New TMG file? --GeneJ
