You never "save" a TMG project, or any other database application
files. (This applies to most (all?) genealogy programs, and to money
managers like Quicken, for example). Data base programs like TMG
continuously save information as you enter it.
So, to get to your question about two viewing copies, both copies of
TMG are accessing the same set of files. So changes you make in one
copy are then visible in the other (you may need to refresh the screen
in the "other" copy by going to another screen and then back to see
the change).
The only restriction is that you cannot access the same exact record
in both copies at once - that is the tag entry screen for the same
tag, for example. TMG manages this for you - if you try, it offers to
open the second one in a non-editable "read only" mode.
So feel free to edit away with either, or both copies, and just close
one or both when you are done.

The two projects are totally independent, so you can do whatever you
want with them.

Sorry - can't help with this one.
