When you add a new exhibt, this is the default path for the Open dialog
looking for the new exhibit to add.

Dennis is correct. External exhibits are backed up and restored based on the
path for each exhibit stored in the exhibits table.

The preferences exhibits path is a convenience to find the shortest path to
the exhibit to be added (typically in that folder or in a subfolder of that
folder); however, you can store external exhibits wherever you choose to
store them.
