Dora- socially they are members of your "family" but they are not blood kin and thus are not members of your genealogical family.

If her "grandmother" was not her ancestor then she was- by genealogical standards- *not* her grandmother but merely the second wife of her grandfather- a big difference.

You can enter step relationships and have them act as if they were blood kin to cover the situation. Family Historians take this route although it tends to make the true genealogist's hair stand on end <grin>
