Marilyn,
Your not so dumb question got 13 responses on the Vermont-l and on
Massachusetts-L under subject "New England".
The New England States are:
Connecticut
Maine
Massachusetts
New Hampshire
Rhode Island
Vermont.
Of those responding, 12 agreed on the above six states and one said
that Connecticut was not a New England state. Then I said that in New York
state some considered New York as New England. Ten of these said New York
was not a New England State and the other two
made no comment.
It was not a dumb question, especially if you live outside of the
northeastern United States. Schools outside of the northeastern US probably
never mention England as to what states it makes up.
Charlie with ancestors in all seven states (including New York).
