Communicable Diseases
Scarelt Fever: An onion cut in halves, with a spoonful of
saffron between, wrapped in a cloth and baked in the oven,
until the onion is cooked. Then the juice is squeezed out
and given to thge patient, a spoonful at a time, meanwhile
rubbing his chest and throat with goose grease or rancid
bacon.The fever will break out in an eruption all over the
body so it is necessary to keep the patient warm and pro-
tected from daughts.

Sure cure for Scarlett Fever and Small-pox
sulphate of pine--1 grain
fox glove--1 grain
1/2 teaspoon of sugar
Mix with two tablespoons of water. Take a teaspoon every
hour. For a child a smaller dose according to age. Either
disease will disappear in 12 hours.

Cure for Scarlet Fever: Disolve an ounze of Clorate of
potash in one half pint of hot water. Take from a teaspoon
to a tablespoon every half hour.
People with small pox were given liquor to keep them
warm and prevent them from catching cold.
Cures for Whooping cough: Steep red clover blossoms
and drink the tea. Stew flax seed, strain to take out the
seeds. Add the juice of a lemon, sugar and one teaspoon
of brandy.

When a person died from small pox he was buried and
lime put on the body so the disease wouldn't spread. People
who died of dangerous diseases such as smallpox, diptheria
or flu were buried immediately and were not allowed a burial
from church.

For Whooping cough--a tea of sweetend colts foot.

Measles: Give a dose of castor oil or salts; in a few hours
give a gentle emetic. Bathe the feet in warm in warm water
with ashes in it. After the bowls have been opened and
emetic given, give saffron and Virginia snake root, made
into a weak tea.
