Appel...if you find your Capt. Gideon Gifford connects with other
Gifford's in Vermont - there is a Gifford Woods State Park in Sherburne,
Vermont. I think that it was named after a Gifford - the park was
established in 1931 and a lot of work was originally done by the CCC's
(Civilian Conservation Corps) beginning in 1933. CCC Camp S-52 in
Plymouth, Vermont furnished the men to build a combination stone
caretaker's building and adjoining loggia for its beginnings. 12 acres
of the park was donated by Mr. and Mrs. John H. McDill, Caroline Field
and Margaret Crosby and an additional 104 acres were purchased. You
might perhaps e-mail --That is the Department
of Forests, Parks and Recreation of the Agency of Natural Resources for
the State of Vermont. The Gifford Woods website is
www.state.vt.us/anr/fpr/parks/gifford. It is a beautiful park.
