March 29, 1922 - Henry G. SPENCER died at his home in Guildhall, March
10. Death was caused by an injury he received when he was thrown from
his sled that forenoon while after a load of wood. mr. Spencer was born
November 1, 1859 in Bloomfield, the son of William and Cordelia (FULLER)
Spencer. Eighteen years ago he bought a farm in Guildhall, where he has
since lived. he is survived by a widow, Lenora (JORDAN) and three
daughters, Blanche, Edna, and Hazel.
April 12, 1922 - Mrs. Martha WILLIAMS died at the hoome of her daughter,
Mildred (Williams) HOLT, April 4. She was born in Bloomfield, November
20, 1856 and had made her home here since. She was the daughter of
Hiram and Priscilla (MERRILL) Fuller. She was married to Leonard T.
Williams nearly 50 years ago. She leaves six children: Mrs. Mary WISELY
of Stratford, Mrs. Mildred Holt, Berlin, Wendell, Everett and Percy of
North Stratford and Charles of Gilman, Vermont.
April 12, 1922 - Mrs. Zotique MATHURIN died at her home last Wednesday
at 68. She leaves a husband and a son William.
December 6, 1922 - Peter LeVERE, Jr., is handing out the cigars and
reports tell us he was married to the widow leVere at Paquetteville,
P.Q., last Tuesday morning. They will occupy the residence on the
terrace near his father's house in Bloomfield village.
December 27, 1922 - Carlos SHOFF died at the house of his son, William
Shoff of Bloomfield December 24 at the age of 74.
February 7, 1923 - John E. BOWKER died January 3 at his home in Belfast,
Maine. He was born in Bloomfield, November 27, 1860 the son of
Nathaniel and Mary A. (PARNELL) BOWKER. he went to Lancaster and then
moved to Belfast in 1913. In Lancaster he had been an efficient and
popular clerk in the Field Grocery Store. he was married to Annie A.,
daughter of O. H. and Ellen (HOLBROOK) SHOFF on October 25, 1884.
January 2, 1924 - Mr. Joseph GOULET of Island Pond and Mrs. Helen DALEY
of North Stratford were married at the Catholic Church in Bloomfield,
Wednesday, December 26. The wedding march was played by Mrs. J. A.
BELISLE. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Fr. BLAIS.
January 16, 1924 - Calvin FULLER died January 7 at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Eugene BARTLETT. He was born in Bloomfield, March 19, 1842. he
was a farmer by trade and was so working when the Civil War broke out.
He answered one of the first calls of his country and served during four
years of strife. After the war he moved to Michigan for nine years,
returning to New England. He has, with the exception of a few years
spent in Lancaster, made his home in North Stratford and Bloomfield. At
the Battle of the Wilderness he received a severe wound in the left arm
which made it nearly helpless. he was a pensioner. he leaves two sons,
William of Cumberland Mills, Maine, and Fred who is in the service as a
Sergeant at Fort Andrews, Massachusetts.
February 6, 1924 - Melvin FULLER died at the home of his daughter, Mrs.
Ethel PRESBY, February 2. He was 68. Melvin was born in Bloomfield and
lived here all of his life. He leaves three daughters and one son,
also three brothers, Fred, Raymond and Frank.
April 9, 1924 - Corliss GENDRON died as the result of injuries received
on Monday, when cars of the logging train of New Hampshire Stave and
Heading Mill of North Stratford broke loose and went rushing down the
mountainside. One of the cars left the tracks and struck Gendron, who
died one-half hour after being taken to Colebrook hospital. The dead
man's father Frank, was killed on the railroad at North Stratford a few
years ago.
April 16, 1924 - Fred FULLER of Bloomfield passed away on Friday at his
home on the Nulhegan Road. he was born in Bloomfield on Christmas
morning in 1851 and lived there ever since. He leaves a widow and three
sons; Ray D., Charles and Maxie. Also two daughters, Mrs. Thomas SHORT
and Alma. He has a twin brother, Frank, in Lunenburg and another
brother Raymond.
August 6, 1924 - Floyd WALLING, 21, son of Leon and Jennie Walling, lost
his life by drowning while bathing near the Lyman Falls Power Company
dam last Thursday. He was bathing with his younger brother and his
cousins.
February 11, 1925 - The community was greatly shocked last Wednesday to
learn of the sudden death of Ezra GIRARD. he was born in Canad,
September 14, 1865 but came to the U. S. as a young child. He married
Agnes PARENT and had a large family. He has been the luggage master at
the Maine Central Railroad station for many years.
March 4, 1925 - Lyle SHOFF died February 22 at his hoome in North
Stratford. he was born in Bloomfield, April 25, 1888, the youngest son
of the late Samuel O. and Josephine (FRENCH) Shoff. He lived in
Bloomfield until a year ago when he moved to North Stratford. On
October 2, 1907 he married Myrtle (BLODGETT) of Columbia and had a son,
Manford, and a daughter, Audrey.
March 18, 1925 - The community was shocked last Sunday afternoon when
the death of Floyd SHOFF was announced. He was born in Bloomfield, June
27, 1876 the son of Samuel and Josephine (FRENCH) SHOFF. He was married
to Maude TRUFANT and had nine children, one dying in infancy.
December 23, 1925 - Mrs. Annie (WHEELER) CHRISTOPHER died in Lincoln,
Maine, on Christmas Day. Her body and that of her infant daughter were
brought here on Sunday, December 27, accompanied by her husband, George
Christopher. mrs. Christopher was the daughter of Joseph Wheeler of
town. She was born in Bloomfield, September 11, 1893 and graduated from
Stratford High School 10 years ago. She was employed as a teacher in
the public schools of her own town and outside places. She married
George Christopher of a well-inown family in Groveton. For two years
she and her husband have been operating a store in Lincoln and have been
very successful. Funeral services were held at the Bloomfield Catholic
Church on Tuesday morning, December 29.
December 23, 1925 - Ernest DUVAL was killed when a section car, on which
he was inspecting tract near North Stratford, was hit by a Maine Central
Special Train.
January 27, 1926 - Bloomfield is "Coming" - Mr. and Mrs. Bernie BOUDLE,
Mr. and Mrs. John MILLS, Mr. and Mrs. Christopher GRAHAM, Mr. and Mrs.
Dan DALEY, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry COTE all announce the birth of boys
within the last week.
July 18, 1928 - Malcolm WALLING of Bloomfield was almost instantly
killed in an automobile accident near the residence of Ransom SEVERY, 2
miles north of North Stratford. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson
Walling.
January 23, 1929 - Joseph NUGENT, one of Bloomfield's oldest citizens,
died at his home on Main Street, January 29th, in his 88th year. he was
born in Canada but came to the States in his early boyhood. He leaves
three sons, Fred, Wilfred and Elmer.
May 1, 1929 - Mrs. Bridget Ann CONNOLLY died at her home in Bloomfield
on Tuesday evening, April 23, from pneumonia after a long and painful
illness. She was born in New Brunswick 74 years ago, coming here with
her husband, John Connolly, early in her married life. The funeral
services were held in St. Stanislaus Church in Bloomfield last Friday.
She leaves a husband, two daughters and three sons: Mrs. Margaret
BELKNAP of Westerly, RI, Mrs. J. A. BELISLE, Bloomfield, Edward CONNOLLY
of Hanover, NH and Isaac CONNOLLY of New York City.
October 9, 1929 - Mrs. Hattie WALLING of Bloomfield died at the hoome of
her son, Nelson Walling, Saturday afternoon after a long and painful
illness. She was 83, the widow of the late George Walling who preceded
her by some years. She leaves one daughter, Mrs. Leslie FULLER, three
sons, Nelson and Leon Walling of Bloomfield and William of Guildhall.
She was born in Bloomfield and has made her home there continually.
