Subject: [WEBB] Webbs (Tenn.) Marry Proffitts (NC) - about 1820

Jesse Webb served as a soldier in the Revolutionary War and later
married Anna McMurty; they raised a large family in Jefferson County, Tennessee.
Two of their daughters married brothers who were the sons of David "Honest Dave"
Proffitt who owned a cattle farm in Yancey County, North Carolina.
Susannah Webb married John Wesley Proffitt about 1820 in Cocke County,
Tennessee; her sister Sarah B. Webb married Samuel E. Proffitt on January 02,
1821, in Chestnut Hill, Jefferson County, Tennessee.
The history of David Proffitt is amazing. His cattle farm was in the
mountains of Yancey County, and when he was ready to sell his cattle, he
organized a cattle drive that lasted from one to two weeks to Columbia, South
Carolina. These North Carolina cowboys did things exactly like the cowboys of the
old west, except they worked in the Carolinas. My g/gf Jasper Webb was working
on David Proffitt's farm in 1850, and I have often wondered if he participated
on one of these cattle drives.
I am seeking any information that you might like to share on these two
marriages, as I only have the names of the brides and grooms.
Jim Webb - Jacksonville, Florida
