As someone who still lives in this general area, you need to always be
looking on both sides of the Big Sandy River when doing research in this
area. It is not unusual at all for a young couple to buy land and set
up housekeeping next door to their parents farm, but in another state
because it is across the river. Remember that the rivers were still a
good way to travel so they are not the barrier that we think of now.
Fort Gay is directly across the river from Louisa Kentucky. It is the
spot where the Levisa and the Tug Fork come together to form the Big
Sandy. Webb, WV is less than 30 miles south of Louisa/Fort Gay on the
Tug Fork.

I would be interested in knowing about the ancestry of the Webb family
that settled in Webb, WV. My grandfather thought that it might have
been named after his gr-grandmother's people. But I have never made a
connection to support that idea. An old-time family member put forth
the theory that his grandmother was probably living with her Webb
relatives when she taught school in the Louisa area. This would have
been sometime around 1850-1855. So perhaps, I will find that one of you
have found an extra person in your Webb household in the 1850 census
named Lucinda Hensley.
