Marsha,
The Webb family is quite scattered and if you had members of this family who lived in or around Lawrence County, KY or across the river at Fort Gay, WV, they could very well be connected to my mother's maternal ancestors. They came into KY from NC and settled in (Harlan Co.) now Letcher Co., KY. They then scattered somewhat and you will find that Webbville, Lawrence Co., KY was settled by this family and it not being too far into WV from there also into the counties of Logan, Cabell, and Mingo. If you are interested, I have much on this family. Also, my G.Grandfather's brother, Allen "Oscar" Webb, lived in WV and I am not sure which town, but departed from there in the 1940s and settled in California. He was married to a lady with the last name of Rood and I have the address of his G.Grandaughter who if you are related could give you quite a bit of information. My G. Grandfather Asbury Webb also lived in WV during the time of the Spanish-American War at Red Jacket, WV.!
Many of this family were coal miners and followed the occupation when jobs were available.
Many of the Webbs were also merchants and owners of Grocery Stores, farm
commodity stores, etc. The first Postmaster at Webbville was a Webb. If you are a member of this family, we would be pleased to have you as a member of our MyFamily site, where you could glean much information on this branch of the family, to include family pictures, histories of other members of the family, etc.

What you say regarding the border states is very true in my experience, also.
Next month I will be attending a reunion at Fort Gay, WV of the Maynard family.
This is where I found that situation. G.Grandfather Simeon Maynard was a farmer/preacher and moved about quite a bit. Some of the family was born just across the river in WV and some were born in KY. He lived and worked in both areas, his preaching probably being the reason. It can get quite confusing trying to track down family members of that time. My sister and I are still involved doing just that.

Eugene
