Hello,

I have a James West that is a complete mystery to me. Maybe someone can help!

My James West was my grt grandfather. My grandmother Ruby West Lyle b. 1909
d. 1987 was raised in Chattanooga, TN by an aunt named Sally starting about
1919. I always thought the reason was because Ruby's parents died in the flu
epidemic of 1918-19 but was told recently that was not the whole truth. But
my aunt who doesn't remember much more of the story.
Ruby's mother died from the flu, but her father- James was in prison-He
later died in prison. The children were split up around 1919 with Ruby going
to TN and the others to relatives in another state. As far as I know Ruby was
the oldest, she had a brother also named James, a sister Clara and a sister
named Ida or Ada.
I was also told that the family was not from TN but from one of the states
that boarder TN- possibly Indiana. James, Sr was a boiler maker by trade and
that he was in prision for murder but for what my aunt did not know. What she
did think was that family traveled around because of James being a boiler
maker and they may not have been in their home state when he was sent to
prison.
Does anyone have a fairly modern (1880s est. birth time) James West missing?
Or perhaps a grandmother/grandfather with the name WEST that might match
Ruby's sibling or aunt?
Just hoping!
