Etna, Fabel, Edith, and others,
I really wish I had a positive answer, but the only way
this test can be pursued is to find a living male who
has the surname WEST from your line. In Edith's
case, and many others, when she finds that person
she will have crashed one of her brick walls, because
she knows that her James WEST has no living male
descendents with the WEST surname. When she
finds the parents of James WEST, or the name of
one of his brothers, she can follow that line forward
to see if there is male WEST from that relative of her
ancestor.
Many, many women have contacted me with the
same plea, "is there ANY way that the DNA test can
help if I have no living male WEST?" All I can do is
encourage you to keep searching, find an ancestor
who had brothers, follow the line of that brother forward,
and perhaps you will find a WEST for the DNA test.
ALSO, my offer of a free DNA test for a documented
descendent of the De La War line is still on the table.
Please email me any time you have questions.
