I recently posted a message containing a reference to the Casper "WISE/WEIS"
family. The source book, "Catholic Trails West", used those variants to
indicate the family. In this case, I assume WISE is a variant of the Dutch
WEIS. Have no firm basis for this other than what may be considered common
usage, would also be interested if anyone has more info on this topic. My
family tradition used the name "WISE", first known ancestor circa 1750, but
said to be from Holland prior to that date. Thanks,
Laura
